Studies in a tumor spectrum. VIII. The effect of mitomycin C on the growth of a variety of mouse, rat, and hamster tumors.

چکیده
Since the original work of Fleming (1), many antibiotics have been isolated from culture filtrates of soil microorganisms. A few of the antibiotics have demonstrated anti-tumor effects in experimental animals (9, 25). Recently, Hata and his associates (8, 12), Sakai and Teranaka (11), and Teranaka (29) reported that mitomycin C, a new antibiotic isolated from Streptomyces caespitosus (4), has strong anti-tumor action on Yoshida sarcoma and Walker carcinosarcoma, both solid and ascitic forms, and on Ehrlich ascites carcinoma. Anti-tumor activity of mitomycin C has been confirmed by Reilly (10), Jones (7), and Sugiura and Stock (23). Mitomycin C has been reported to show promising effects against various types of human cancer (13-15, 27). This report consists of observations on the effect of mitomycin C on the growth of sixteen solid tumors of the mouse, six solid tumors of the rat, three hamster tumors, two ascites tumors of the mouse, and one mouse solid leukemia and one mouse virus leukemia.

Background and Objective: Using dendritic cells (DCs) loaded with tumor antigens as a therapeutic strategy against tumors has been proposed. In order to increase the efficacy of DCs, a variety of factors such as TLR ligand molecules and bacterial products are used. In this study, the protein components of the bacteria Listeria monocytogeneses (LM) for induction of dendritic cell maturation were...
متن کاملEFFECT OF IRON OVERLOAD ON 7, 12-DIMETHYLBENZ (A) ANTHRACENE-INDUCED SKIN TUMORIGENESIS
Iron overload is known to occur in the West European and American population due to the consumption of iron-rich diets. On the other hand, genetic disorders leading to iron overload are also known. Iron overload leads to increased peroxidation and disruptive disintegration of lipid-rich membranes, and predisposes humans for an enhanced risk of cancer induction. In experimental animals iron ...
متن کاملFIVE ALPHA DIHYDROTESTOSTERONE (5α-DHT) MAY MODULATE NITRIC OXIDE RELEASE VIA ENDOGENOU S CYTOKINES IN PERITONEAL MA CROPHA GES OF NZB/BALBc MICE
Recent studies have established that sex hormones directly or indirectly affect T and B cells and macrophages by manipulating the production of cytokines. In this study the possibility of the effect of 5a-DHT on macrophage (MΦ) nitric oxide (NO) release via interleukin-l, 6 (lL-1β, IL-6) or tumor necrosis factor-a (TNFα) was investigated. The endogenous cytokines IL-1β, IL-6 and TNF-α were ...
متن کاملSupportive Effects of Human Embryonic Fibroblast Cell Lines on Growth and Proliferation of EBV-Transformed Lymphoblastoid Cells
Human diploid fibroblast cells produce a spectrum of necessary growth factors and extracellular matrix (ECM) components essential for growth and proliferation of a variety of other cell types. In this study, the effect of five human embryonic fibroblast cell lines, isolated from liver, lung, skin and foreskin tissues, was investigated. A coculture system analyse was employed to cloning efficien...
متن کاملThe use of Gold nanorods conjugated with Herceptin in breast cancer treatment by photothermal therapy method in mouse model
Treatment methods for breast cancer are not specific and each one has its own drawbacks. For this reason, scientists are seeking ways in which specifically affect cancer cells. Photothermal therapy is a method that uses near-infrared (NIR) laser energy to create sufficient heat to destroy cancer cells. In this study, the photothermal effect of gold nanorods (GNRs) was investigated for breast ca...
